    Up for auction is a magnet that was sold at the gift shop of the New York Historical Society for an exhibition called “ Slavery in New York “ that lasted 2 years ( 2005 - 2006 ) . The exhibitions spans a period from 1600s to 1827 when slavery was legally abolished in New York State.
    On exhibit at “Slavery in New York “ was daguerreotype by an unidentified photographer of Caesar, a slave , taken in 1851 at age 114 . It is one of the first photographic images of a black American . It’s Caesar ‘s imposing image that appears on the magnet . The magnet measures 2 1/4”wide x 2 3/4 “ long.
    The magnet is in excellent condition and is still plastic wrapped & unopened .
    This magnificent magnet would make a great addition to the Black Americana or magnet collector .
